    Automobile Accidents

    • A car wreck can leave a trail of destruction that is wide and deep in the life of the injured person and his family.  While bills mount up and promises are continuously made and broken, the responsible driver moves on with his life, and your family must struggle with getting back on your feet physically and financially.  We can help you understand the maze of insurance questions and give you some hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

    Workers' Compensation Claims

    • Work related injuries can result in fear of job loss, income interruption, diminished health in the future and animosity between you and your employer.  Many times an employee finds that after years of loyal service to his company he is treated with suspicion and contempt after an on-the-job accident that isn't his fault.  Even when the accident is your fault, the employer's obligation and responsibility to you is to make sure you get the care you need and get back on your feet, and back to work, as soon as you can, without throwing the bills on you.  Many times the employee simply needs an advocate in her corner to help level the playing field and protect the rights that the law provides.  We have the experience and knowledge of the law to be a strong and fair advocate for you.

    Medical Malpractice

    • Physician and hospital mistakes occur every hour in this country.  Far less often do these good people who make terrible errors apologize for their mistakes, and even less so do they take responsibility for them when they do occur.  Unfortunately, when a medical professional makes a mistake, the consequences are often dramatic and life-changing.  Handling a claim on behalf of someone who has experienced a medical error takes sensitivity to the patient's needs and concerns, an understanding of the medical issues involved and the experience needed to prepare and push forward the legal claim on behalf of the patient.  We have been handling malpractice claims for 15 years and can put that background to work for you.

    Premises Liability

    • Poor lighting, hidden defects, inadequate warning and landowner-created hazards result in serious injuries to unsuspecting business visitors and social guests.  Sadly many of these injuries are easily preventable.  Too often, however, the landowner wants to blame you:  "You should have been watching where you were going."  This excuse comes too easily to these landowners.  We understand that a slip or a trip is much more complicated than that and we will help you hold the owner responsible for his or her actions.

    Dog Bites

    • The law in Nebraska recognizes that animal bites are so unacceptable and often so horrible that the owner is held strictly responsible for the injuries that result.  Do not accept the excuse that "She has never bitten anyone before," or "You must have provoked him for him to attack like that."  We will help you bring an end to the difficulties that come from dealing with the dog owner and help you recover for your injuries and losses.

Injury Claims Against the State of Nebraska

    • Unlike claims against private citizens, claims against the State of Nebraska for injuries are controlled by its own set of laws.  The laws are very complex and if they are not followed correctly can result in valid claims being thrown out by the courts on "technicalities."  The lawyers and adjusters who work for the State of Nebraska know the rules inside and out.  We have handled these claims since 1992 and Matt Lathrop has actually participated in the process of drafting and following some of these very laws through the state legislature.  We can "even the odds" for you in your claim against the State.

Injury Claims Against Counties and Cities

    • Like claims against the State of Nebraska, claims against counties, cities, municipalities and other political subdivisions for damages resulting from the negligence of one of these agencies are governed by its own set of rules.  There are traps in the requirements for notice to the agency and the time limits for making such notice.  We have clients from across the State of Nebraska whom we have helped navigate the muddy waters of the political subdivision claims act, and we would be glad to help you too.

Matthew A. Lathrop is licensed to appear in every civil court, in every county in Nebraska.  He has helped clients from across the entire state.

    Our Fees

A huge concern for people who contact us is the worry about the cost of hiring a lawyer.  All of the cases that we handle at the Law Office of Matthew A. Lathrop are contracted on a "contingent fee" arrangement.

This means that we do not get paid a fee unless you recover from the negligent party.  What is more, our fee arrangement is set in writing the first day you decide to hire us and you will always know exactly what the fee arrangement is - no tricks, no fine print.  We are happy to answer your questions and concerns about fees, costs and the risks of making a claim.  You deserve to have straight answers.
